Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT) is a nearly half million-dollar nonprofit advocacy group whose mission is to secure the blessings of liberty by advocating for God's design for the family through education, advocacy, accountability, and strategic alliances. Founded in 2006, they have helped enact pioneering laws on abstinence, religious freedom, and family values in Tennessee. In its founding year, FACT helped lead the state-wide campaign to define marriage as only between one man and one woman in the Constitution of the State of Tennessee. In 2014 FACT played a central role in the passage of an amendment to the State Constitution to overturn a Tennessee Supreme Court ruling that guaranteed the right to abortion. Special emphasis has been focused on supporting marriage policy in the recent past.

THE OPPORTUNITY
Building upon its history, the next President will have a well-grounded biblical worldview
and drive the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan to grow
into a fully-functioning and operationally-sound family policy council. This
entrepreneurial leader should be well-versed in and have a passion for FACT’s
signature issues of life, marriage and family, and religious freedom as well as be bold,
yet humble in their communication and convictions. The President will set public policy
and legislative strategy to develop relationships with elected lawmakers, as well as track
political developments impacting FACT and our issues. This individual will need to have
an instinctive nature concerning when, and how, to communicate with the right people
at the right time. While a law degree may enrich the successful candidate’s
qualifications, it is not required. Relocation to the Nashville area is required. The
successful candidate will have a deep conviction of marriage as being between one
man and one woman and have a desire to continue working to address the deep
impacts of the Obergefell Supreme Court ruling.

WHO THEY ARE
Family Action Council of Tennessee (FACT) is a nonprofit advocacy and educational
organization committed to promoting and defending the foundational principles of life,
marriage & family, and religious freedom. Established in 2006 as an organization
dedicated to strengthening Tennessee families through policy and education, FACT has
worked with elected officials and members of the community to make Tennessee a
state where families can thrive. Operating both as a 501-c4 (FACT) and a 501-c3
(Alliance for Law and Liberty) under one leadership umbrella, the two organizations
position FACT to act in both the traditional not-for-profit space, as well in the more
political arenas.
The heart of FACT is to create a Tennessee where:
Marriage is honored and families thrive with enduring generational impact.
The sanctity of human life is cherished from its very beginning to its natural end.
Religious freedom is affirmed and protected, free from government interference.

WHAT THEY DO
FACT promotes and defends the foundational values of life, marriage and family
and religious freedom.
They do this through:
Education: Providing training and educational resources to citizens and elected
officials via various mediums and venues, including a weekly email newsletter
"Five Minutes for Families" currently reaches around 15,000 people, a monthly
print letter to approximately 1,500 people. as well as an educational podcast
called "God, Law, & Liberty."
Advocacy: Lobbying state and local officials for policies supporting marriage,
families, life, and religious liberty.
Accountability: During election years, distributing online voter education
materials regarding candidates for state House and state Senate and sending
Action Alert emails about key legislative votes.
Strategic Alliances: Collaborating with national, state, and local organizations on
issues of shared concern.
Litigation: Allied with the Alliance for Law and Liberty’s initiative Constitutional
Government Defense Fund, evaluating and filing lawsuits where government
actions violate constitutional principles related to life and marriage.

OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES
Opportunities
FACT has a strong reputation in Tennessee; their friends and allies recognize the
important contribution to public policy and advocacy for families to thrive. Over
the years, they have achieved pioneering legislative successes, such as the
strongest abstinence law in the nation and being the first state with a religious
freedom protection law (RFRA). As a result of these past successes, the donor
base has remained committed. The next President will have a deep reservoir of
good will upon which to draw as they re-invigorate the mission.
The new President will discover that the work of FACT is fast paced and intense-
things can quickly change based on a court decision or policy which needs
urgent attention. The President has the opportunity to make an immediate
impact on state level policy decisions in response to these constantly changing
dynamics. Very little bureaucracy exists in the current organization that would
impede immediate action on current issues.
The organization possesses ample resources to support future initiatives led by
the staff and supported by the Board. One such initiative could be educating the
church at large, and the general public, by becoming the “go-to” resource in
understanding and advocating for Biblical values in the public arena.
Challenges
An immediate challenge for the next President is to reestablish the connections
at the State Capitol to ensure ongoing influence of conservative family values in
legislation. While FACT, as an organization, enjoys a solid reputation, past policy
differences created some strained relationships with leadership on Capitol Hill.
A first priority will be to foster and develop personal relationships at all levels of
state government.
A further challenge will be to broaden the focus of FACT beyond the marriage
issue. While maintaining a focus on overturning Obergefell is important, it is
imperative that FACT develop initiatives in other areas as well. It is the intent of
the board that FACT will return to its roots in advocating for and defending
Biblical values throughout the political arena.
