MISSION

To bless Israel and Her Neighbors in the name of Jesus, according to Genesis 12:1-3.

OVERVIEW

THE JOSHUA FUND was founded by Joel and Lynn Rosenberg in 2006. Seeking to obey biblical commands, the Rosenbergs established a non-profit educational and charitable organization that works closely with Jewish and Christian allies in Israel and the Middle East, as well as Christian allies worldwide. As an educational organization, THE JOSHUA FUND has sought to engage Christians globally about God's love and plan for Israel and Her Neighbors.

THE JOSHUA FUND is a $10.9MM nonprofit organization with 21 employees, all are remote throughout the U.S. and some other countries. With Israel in the news in the past year, their revenue has increased by 49%. In the last 13 months alone, THE JOSHUA FUND experienced 120% growth in its donor base. The last two months alone were the largest months of revenue, ever. Through their work, they show God’s love and follow the Great Commission by serving, encouraging, equipping, and teaching to make a significant difference at the Epicenter.

THE JOSHUA FUND is an independent, not-for-profit organization supported through the generosity of contributors.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

HISTORY

Founded by New York Times Bestselling Author Joel C. Rosenberg and his wife, Lynn, in 2006, THE JOSHUA FUND was established “to bless Israel and Her Neighbors in the name of Jesus, according to Genesis 12:1-3.” From the outset, the organization’s purposes were to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of Jews and Arabs in the region, not only in Israel, but with her “neighbors”—Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and the Palestinian Territories—as well. A few months after THE JOSHUA FUND’s founding, Lebanon launched missiles toward Israel. Joel’s popularity as an author and authority on the Middle East provided opportunities on national television, radio, and in large churches across the nation. He pointed people toward the Lord’s work through THE JOSHUA FUND while donations flooded in. This opened supernatural doors for several initial projects in the Middle East.

The organization focuses on four primary goals:

  • Serve: Care for the needy (Humanitarian Aid)

  • Encourage: Encourage pastors and invest in healthy church communities in the Epicenter.

  • Equip: Equip the global church in the Epicenter. “Epicenter” is the name of one of Joel’s non-fiction books and is used by THE JOSHUA FUND to describe the entire region in which they do ministry.

  • Teach: Teach the Word of God through highly vetted local organizations in the Middle East (Communications / Teaching Ministry)

Nearly every time Israel is in the news, THE JOSHUA FUND has received surges in donations. Additionally, THE JOSHUA FUND’s ministry opportunities in the field are multiplying and, by God's grace, their reputation as a trusted resource in terms of grants to trusted partners, coming alongside pastors and other ministry leaders with encouragement and mentoring, developing long-term relationships with local church leaders, hosting conferences that educate North Americans and always emphasizing love for Arabs and Jews alike – has never been better.

STAFF, FINANCES & BOARD

THE JOSHUA FUND is a remote organization, with each staff member working out of their homes in numerous US states. Their related NGO in Israel is a separate organization with several full-time employees.

Their current revenue stream is derived primarily from individual public donations with a smaller percentage coming from foundations and stock gifts.

THE JOSHUA FUND is led by eight board members, including Joel and his wife Lynn. Board members, except Joel and Lynn, are term-limited. THE JOSHUA FUND has been a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) for many years, and the Board is committed to policy governance principles. Joel serves as Founder / Chairman, but not as a traditional Board Chair. He is the external leader of THE JOSHUA FUND, serving as their chief spokesperson and visionary. The Board is led by the Senior Vice Chair, who oversees meetings and works closely with the Executive Director.

THEIR WORK

EPICENTER CONFERENCES: These are events where Joel Rosenberg is the featured speaker and serves as moderator. Conferences typically focus on scripture demonstrating God’s love and plan for Israel. From time to time, THE JOSHUA FUND hosts a prayer summit in Jerusalem, where Joel and other speakers such as Anne Graham Lotz, Chuck Smith, and Greg Laurie teach about the importance of prayer for God’s work in the Middle East. Such conferences help educate North Americans (and others) about the body of believers in Israel, their challenges and how to pray for them, Scripture related to current and future events involving Israel and Her Neighbors, and the work of THE JOSHUA FUND.

HUMANITARIAN RELIEF: Through a separate nonprofit in Israel, THE JOSHUA FUND provides food to 25 distribution centers (operated mostly by local congregations). These centers offer monthly packs of non-perishable food to needy persons in their communities. It is commendable that THE JOSHUA FUND is actively responding to the crisis in Israel by providing humanitarian aid to those affected by the Hamas-Israel War. Their dedication to serving and caring for the needs of Jews and Arabs in the region is in line with their mission to bless Israel and Her Neighbors in the name of Jesus.

FIELDWORK IN ISRAEL: US team members stay in close contact with pastors and ministry leaders in Israel, praying for them, assessing their needs, etc. They make 45 trips into the region each year, spending time with these leaders, encouraging them and looking for opportunities to serve and bless them and their ministries. THE JOSHUA FUND hosts pastor retreats and an annual Preach the Word Conference. The conference provides two to three days of rest and refreshment, with Bible teaching for ministry leaders and their spouses.

FIELDWORK IN NEIGHBORING NATIONS: the ministry's US team encourages pastors in Arab countries and seeks to show the love of Christ through them. They also partner with organizations to care for refugees and distribute Arabic Bibles (both audio Bibles and study Bibles) to trusted partners who, in turn, give them to any who are interested.

EDUCATION IN THE AMERICAN CHURCH: Since many churches are not teaching about God's love and plan for Israel and the Jewish people, the number of those who don't know or are undecided as to what they think about Israel is spiking among young people. The educational mission of THE JOSHUA FUND, then is especially vital to encourage and mobilize pastors and ministry leaders to teach their congregations – young and old – about such important matters and engage younger evangelicals directly through their conferences, tours to Israel, social media, etc. THE JOSHUA FUND’s strategic partnership with All Israel News, All Arab News, and The Rosenberg Report on TBN provides a powerful strategic positioning to educate and mobilize Christians to “Learn, Pray, Give, and Go” to Israel.
