PROVIDENCE EXTENSION PROGRAM

Providence Extension Program (PEP) is a Christian classical hybrid homeschool program that partners with parents to provide a home-based, Christ-centered, academically challenging secondary education. Founded in 2001, PEP now serves families across six campuses in Ohio and Florida, combining subject-expert tutors with parent-led home study to form students who reason biblically and live a free self-governing life under Christ’s authority.

PEP seeks an Executive Director to succeed the founder’s visionary leadership. Reporting to the Board, the Executive Director will advance vision, strengthen multi-campus health, grow fundraising and partnerships, and protect classical Christian distinctives—working through campus administrators and operations rather than managing day-to-day campus delivery.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Providence Extension Program is the public ministry of Providence Extension Ministries, Inc. (PEM). The program began in September 2001 at Faith Church in Milford, Ohio, with 34 students. Today PEP serves over 500 students across six active campuses: Mason and Dayton (Ohio); Mandarin, West Jacksonville, St. Johns, and Fernandina (Florida). Campuses are church-hosted and branded by location.

Mission: To enable parents to provide a home-based, Christ-centered, academically challenging secondary education.

Vision: To fulfill the Great Commission by discipling a generation who Embraces freedom under Christ’s authority, Reasons biblically, and Discerns Truth to engage society to the glory of God.

Leadership is primarily remote. Combined campus income is about $1.4 million, almost entirely tuition; campuses remit enrollment-based management fees covering central PEM costs. Staffing: 1 full-time PEM employee, a part-time finance manager, and about 90 part-time campus staff. A Board—recently formed for the founder transition—oversees budget, legal matters, and major strategy and meets quarterly. Grades served are primarily 7th–12th, with Cincinnati-area campuses also offering 5th/6th.

HOW THEY ACCOMPLISH THEIR MISSION

PEP is a Christian homeschool program, not a school. Parents remain the primary educators; tutors are subject-matter partners. Students typically attend campus about two days per week and complete syllabus-guided home study the rest of the week.

The Humanities Core—History, Composition/Literature, and Biblical Worldview studied together—anchors the model. Families and tutors consistently name the Core, classical Christian academics, discipleship, and tutor quality as PEP’s distinctives. Campus administrators lead locally; central leadership protects mission and enables growth. A reusable campus-launch blueprint already supports multi-state expansion—an asset the next Executive Director should steward and multiply through wise partnerships.

OPPORTUNITIES & CHALLENGES

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Champion the unique PEP model. Advance classical Christian academics, biblical worldview, and the home partnership through strategic leadership and public-facing advocacy.

  • Grow through a proven campus blueprint and partnerships. Use PEP’s replicable template, fundraising, and church/community partnerships to expand thoughtfully into new cities without diluting culture.

  • Remote Leadership - Flexibility in location. Though the position is remote, Ohio residency is preferred. Leadership must be done in person, so the Executive Director will have the opportunity to travel to all campuses throughout the year to provide effective leadership.

CHALLENGES

  • Strengthen upper-grade retention without loosening Core standards. Eleventh- and twelfth-grade enrollment faces pressure from dual enrollment and competing options. The next leader must improve belonging and pathways through graduation while guarding PEP’s educational philosophy.

  • Tighten campus–central trust, systems, and visibility. Professionalize communication and shared tools across six campuses, invest in tutors and training, and build a clearer public presence beyond word of mouth.

  • Lead a healthy founder transition. Succeed Beth Smith’s visionary role with a maturing Board to lead with excellence and humility.

ABOUT GREATER CINCINNATI

PEP began in Greater Cincinnati, and the Mason and Dayton campuses remain in Ohio. The Board’s first-choice location for the Executive Director is Greater Cincinnati—near the Ohio campuses—while operations leadership remains in Florida. Candidates who know the region’s Christian education landscape, or are open to making it home, will find strong church networks and a mission-rich environment for classical and Christian learning.

Greater Cincinnati is a region of rolling hills, river views, distinctive neighborhoods, and thriving communities built around the winding Ohio River. Stretching from Cincinnati’s historic urban core into the suburbs of southwest Ohio and across the river into Northern Kentucky, the area blends big-city culture with an approachable, hometown character. From century-old architecture and lively arts and sports scenes to wooded suburban streets, excellent parks, and charming river towns, Greater Cincinnati offers remarkable variety—along with a cost of living that remains attractive compared with many major U.S. metropolitan areas. The median “sold” price of a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home in Greater Cincinnati has been $329,000 over the past three months, according to the Realtor Alliance of Greater Cincinnati.
