ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Mennonite Brethren Foundation traces its functional beginnings to 1898, when an Endowment Fund was established under the management of the Board of Trustees of the General Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches. In 1957, a gift annuity program was introduced, and the first annuity was issued.

A more formal and intentional beginning occurred in 1972 with the creation of a denominational stewardship department. This department offered services in estate planning education, life income agreements, charitable trusts, and various other gift planning options. The success of these planned giving programs, along with a recognized need for greater organizational effectiveness, led to the incorporation of Mennonite Brethren Foundation in 1990.

In 2003, MB Loan Fund was established and incorporated to manage the Foundation’s investment and loan programs. Charitable activities and gift planning continue to be overseen by MB Foundation. Both organizations share the same staff and board.

full history of MB Foundation is detailed in Taking Hold of Real Life, published in 2020.
