ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Halftime was founded by the late Bob Buford as a result of the overwhelming success of his 1994 book, Halftime. This began a global movement that has transformed millions of lives all over the world. Along the way, the movement matured into taking clients through an impactful journey of discovering God's unique calling on their lives in order to live a life of significance. Today, Halftime's cohort-based programs are helping high-capacity leaders around the world get clear, get free and get going to live a life of purpose. Thousandfold, Halftime's global impact online community, was launched in 2023 to continue the catalytic, calling-driven movement and accelerate both individual and collective potential beyond the program experience.

Led by its Board of Directors, Halftime is a $2.2 million nonprofit headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with eight full-time employees. There are also 18 certified coaches across the U.S. (and many more around the world) as well as “hubs” that operate as highly aligned but structurally independent and autonomous ministries, including Nashville, the Carolinas, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Sweden, and South Africa. In 2023, roughly 60% of the organization’s revenue came from its products and services, with the remaining 40% coming from donors.

Here’s a video from several years ago that answers the question, “What is Halftime?”…

HOW HALFTIME ACCOMPLISHES ITS MISSION

Halftime’s mission is “The power to change y(our) world: Get Clear, Get Free, Get Going.” GET CLEAR on who you are and what you were created to do. Embrace that you were made for more. GET FREE from the things that hold you back. Identify your pain points and benefit from the transformation that comes when you break through those barriers. GET GOING in thought and in action. Connect to a global network of high-capacity leaders in hot pursuit of joyful personal transformation and an exponential return on life…just like you. To help people accomplish this mission, they currently offer five programs:

100x

100x is a 15-month journey that includes a confidential and exclusive peer group of high-capacity leaders, personalized individual coaching, and a proven process for gaining clarity and leverage in your next season. Hosted and facilitated by Pete Chambers, Lloyd Reeb and MarionShields, 100x features Quarterly (5) Two-Day High-Impact Live Gatherings, One-on-One Monthly Coaching, and 4 (optional) sessions for the spouse. Topics include:

  • Purpose Forum—Builds a foundation of authenticity and confidentiality with Forum members as participants systematically clarify their personal mission.

  • Platform Forum—Refines and designs the best platform for each participant to make a 100X impact. Personally interact with peers who are further down the road and are making a leveraged impact using various types of platforms.

  • People Forum—Discovers how to cherish and nurture their tribe more deeply while pursuing 100X impact. Build a dream team that will help them turn their vision into reality, making a long-term impact.

  • Posterity and Philanthropy Forum—Refines each participant’s vision for what they want to leave behind. Present and enhance their family philanthropy strategy with peer feedback.

  • Persistence Forum—Takes a deep dive into what it will take for them to finish well. Explore the five key factors and how to intentionally embed them into your life rhythm.

FELLOWS

Halftime’s signature offering, the Fellows Program, is a journey that includes a confidentiality-based peer group and individual coaching, focused on discernment and discovery of life purpose. It is a 12-month in-person and online program carefully customized for high-capacity leaders and their global peers, intentionally designed to fit into their busy lives. Cohorts often continue to interact and collaborate long after the first year of learning and discovery. The program includes:

  • CONFIDENTIAL CONNECTING—A facilitated cohort of authentic leaders receiving and providing insightful breakthroughs while sharing life experiences.

  • CERTIFIED HALFTIME COACHING—Proprietary executive-style transition coaching delivered individually (also available for Fellows spouses).

  • INSPIRED TEACHING—Sought-after faculty who’ve walked in your shoes and have inspired, educated, and mobilized thousands of leaders worldwide.

ENGAGE

Engage is a once-a-month, cohort-based program designed to fit into active marketplace leaders’ everyday lives. It helps them close the gap between where they are now and who God made them to be in this and future seasons. This client service model offers space to develop new skills, perspectives, habits, and community that fit their day, enhance their life, and maximize their impact on the world around them.

Understanding that one size does not fit all, this program is designed with maximum flexibility, allowing each cohort to shape their journey according to their unique needs and pace. Participants will:

  • DEVELOP THEIR PLAN—Get clear on their purpose priorities and create a pragmatic personal action plan that empowers them to maximize the life they live, today.

  • FIND THEIR FELLOW TRAVELERS—Connect with peers on a similar journey and guides who have been in their shoes who can help each member get there, together.

  • LIVE THEIR PURPOSE—Learn how to weave their purpose into all of the aspects and rhythms of the everyday life they live now, naturally.

Engage is also being “white labeled” for partnerships with companies, college alumni associations, etc.

WOMEN @ HALFTIME

An online experience designed around the book, Women @ Halftime, by Carolyn Castleberry Hux and Shayne Moore, these ongoing cohorts include:

  • GUIDED EXPLORATION—Dive deeper into the principles and exercises presented in Women @ Halftime with Group Coaching Sessions designed to help bring women’s dreams to life.

  • DISCOVERY RESOURCES—Glean wisdom from an interactive curriculum created by Co-Author Carolyn Castleberry Hux.

  • CONNECTION OPPORTUNITIES—Connect with women around the world who understand each other’s unique needs and challenges and desire to live on-mission.

DREAM TOGETHER

These all-inclusive programs held at various locations across the U.S. (and internationally) are a weekend experience for couples who want to live a legacy, focused on combining creative possibilities with practical plans to gain margin, increase impact, and ignite their individual and collective callings.

  • NOT JUST ANOTHER MARRIAGE RETREATMaterial dives deeper to focus on aligned impact and unity in a couple’s shared values and future vision to live a legacy.

  • INSPIRATION FROM LIKE-MINDED PEERS—Exposure to other kingdom-focused, authentic couples for insightful perspectives and stories.

  • MAKING THE NEXT SEASON THEIR BEST SEASON TOGETHER—Create a plan that unites big vision and practicality; not only for their marriage, but also for the people who matter most.

ONE-ON-ONE COACHING

Halftime One-on-One Coaching is a journey focused on discernment and discovery of life purpose—blended with faith and leading-edge instruction that includes:

  • HALFTIME CERTIFIED™ COACHING—World-class, executive-style transition coaching delivered through one-on-one, 1-hour sessions via phone or Zoom. Halftime coaches have personally been through their own Halftime season, have discerned that their calling is to coach Halftimers, and have undergone rigorous training to become Halftime Certified™ Coaches.

  • INSPIRED TEACHING—Curriculum culled from 20+ years in equipping leaders worldwide to discern their life purpose and get engaged in it meaningfully.

  • MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS—Access to a network of authentic leaders participants can learn from via case studies, published stories, and personal introductions to others engaging in their personal areas of interest.

THOUSANDFOLD

All of these programs are supported by significant content developed with and refined by national and global leaders over the last 30 years, including more than twenty books and thought leadership content sought after by many diverse networks.

In more recent days, digital access to community and content has been extended through Thousandfold. This recently-released (2023) online global impact community inspired by Halftime encourages participants and alumni to meaningfully engage with like-minded friends and peers. Within that community is a wide range of helpful resources that Thousandfold is a “calling incubator and accelerator” for personal and collective growth. Leadership believes that Thousandfold has the potential to be a core piece of the organization’s future and serves its desire to accelerate collaborations and partnerships.

On the Thousandfold platform, users will find:

  • COMMUNITY—Genuine connections and high-impact collaboration with like-minded leaders of influence around the globe.

  • ACCESS—Exclusive, on-demand access to coaching, content, resources, programs and events to propel them forward.

  • ACTIVATION—Personalized activation and support so leaders can leverage the full power of the global Thousandfold community.

OPPORTUNITIES & CHALLENGES

The team at Halftime is healthy and excited about the future. They are passionate about Halftime's mission and choose to work there as part of their own calling. They are client-focused…saying that it's about their experience and the fruit on their tree, not their own. They describe themselves as a praying organization and they care deeply for one another, and operate collaboratively, although each of them is probably wearing too many hats..

The strengths of the organization are the transformational outcomes they have seen for decades for their clients, as evidenced by their stories. Halftime has a proven, world-class approach in its programs, coaching, connections and resources, as evidenced by the global network of Halftimers who are living lives of purpose for the Kingdom.

That being said, the brand deserves a broader reach, offering more "on ramps,” especially for younger demographics. And they must devise ways to engage and serve their clients longer...not just through a program, but through their ongoing journey of significance. Halftime also needs a stronger, more constant and sustainable economic model. What is the right mix between revenues for products and services vs. donation/investment income?

Halftime is a highly respected global brand positioning itself for the future. More than an organization, it is in many ways, a “movement” that has literally helped change the course of thousands of careers—and millions of lives—over the past 30 years, and yet the work is more relevant in today’s world than ever. The organization is really at an inflection point.

The current Co-CEOs, Jim Stollberg and Tom McGehee—came from the Board of Directors three years ago and have served as change agents, building a framework to help set the ministry on a new path for growth and impact. They now feel called to serve in a different capacity and desire to pass the baton to the next generational leader. The board, too, is remaking itself from a board of “historians” to a board of “futurists,” as it continues to guard the vision and help shape the strategy that meets the moment in which are living and the future that is unfolding.

THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS ROLE

The new CEO is likely a marketplace leader who has already begun to step into Kingdom roles (as a volunteer, board member, etc.). Or they could be serving at a large nonprofit ministry after having come from the corporate world. He or she must think globally, but act locally and be able to harness the power of Halftime’s global network while celebrating the operational independence of its various expressions around the world. This will require leading through influence rather than authority; continuing to find ways to add value to global network initiatives and providing more of a legislative leadership mindset with a highly collaborative approach.

He or she must be relational and engaging while also bringing an executive presence and personal credibility to the role, being seen as an experienced and inspiring guide to the clientele that Halftime serves and able to cast vision with them. They probably have at least been through a “Halftime-like” experience, if not Halftime itself. They must also be able to engage and rejuvenate alumni relationships.

Terms used to describe the ideal leader would be entrepreneurial, globally-minded, galvanizer, courageous, prayerful, collaborative, growth-mindset, relational, persuasive, and strategic. Someone who can bring focus and clarity; someone who knows how to scale, multiply and leverage; someone who is business-minded with a ministry heart. This leader must honor the organization’s history but reach forward to the next generation, the digital generation. Above all else, the new CEO must have a strong Christian faith and feel called to serve in this important Kingdom role.
