Valley Church seeks a brand architect and marketing professional who can clarify and align communications across the church and to the community; direct a team that partners with the leaders of key ministries to engage target audiences; and deliver high impact communications to people both inside and outside the church. In addition, this high capacity leader will communicate the mission of Valley Community Center which reaches more than 150,000 people in the community annually. This passionate storyteller will exercise a proven competency in creating two-way systems to capture and disseminate Valley DNA and messaging.

  • Community awareness and exploration: the community will grow yearly in awareness of the church and in exploring how they can become involved.

VALLEY CHURCH AT A GLANCE

Valley Church is a vibrant church on mission in the heart of West Des Moines.  They have created a unique pathway that enables members to give brave love and good news to their community. A fruitful, faithful ministry the church has grown steadily under Pastor Quintin Stieff and his team over 30 years to its current 2200+ weekly attenders and $5.6 million budget.  In 2000 the church constructed their current 70,000 sq. ft. facility and they now host six weekly worship services and a myriad of ministry activities throughout the week.


In 2013 they opened the Valley Community Center as a gift to the community. They seek to create good will in the community through good works and partnership, to reach diverse groups, and ultimately to impact as many as possible in the Des Moines area. The Valley Community Center anchors a 35-acre campus across the street from the church and welcomes more than 150,000 community guests annually. The church demonstrates their commitment to their community through Love You Des Moines Days, a signature series of events that has attracted over 8,000 participants. Valley Church is a member congregation of the Evangelical Free Church of America


CURRENT WORSHIP SERVICES

  • Online worship services: 5:30 pm Saturday, 8:15 am, 9:30 am, 11:00 am Sundays

  • In-person worship services: 8, 9:30 and 11 am Sundays in the main worship room, 9:30 and 10:15 am at the Valley Community Center

Statement of Beliefs

 

GOD: We believe in one God, Creator of all things, holy, infinitely perfect, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously purposed from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory.


THE BIBLE: We believe that God has spoken in the scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.


THE HUMAN CONDITION: We believe that God created Adam and Eve in His image, but they sinned when tempted by Satan. In union with Adam, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled and renewed.


JESUS CHRIST: We believe that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person in two natures. Jesus, Israel’s promised Messiah, was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.


THE WORK OF CHRIST: We believe that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect, all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation.


THE HOLY SPIRIT: We believe that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.


THE CHURCH: We believe that the true church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true church is manifest in local churches, whose membership should be composed only of believers. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. Though they are not the means of salvation, when celebrated by the church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer.


CHRISTIAN LIVING: We believe that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to live out our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples among all people, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed.


CHRIST'S RETURN: We believe in the personal, bodily and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service and energetic mission.


RESPONSE AND ETERNAL DESTINY: We believe that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the new heaven and the new earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.

OPPORTUNITIES 

  1.  Bold, evangelistic church committed to establishing community bridges, willing to be mobilized to accomplish the church's mission. The moment is ripe for a talented, called marketing professional to tell these stories to eager audiences. 

  2. A strong leadership team, from core leaders to ministry directors have established leadership pipelines to mobilize volunteers into action. The value of marketing to ministry success is appreciated across the organization. Many of Valley’s ministry teams include "marketing minded" individuals awaiting a strategic plan and direction.


CHALLENGES

  1. The church has a strength in execution/implementation as they communicate ministry plans. To improve, they would benefit from a more strategic and collaborative focus, aligned with the church's clear "Vision-frame" strategy. 

  2. The church leadership is highly motivated and creative, and has many ideas and activities going at all times... a strategic marketer will need to carefully refine the best highlights and story lines to bring coherence and emphasis to the most important themes. 

  3. The Director of Strategic Marketing and Communication will update the strategic marketing framework to better support the church "Vision frame" and strategic initiatives.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY: The Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications is a high-capacity leader who can clarify and align communications across the organization; partner with ministries to engage their specific audiences; and deliver high impact communications to both internal and external audiences. This position will communicate the mission of both Valley Church and Valley Community Center.

  • Leads: Strategic Marketing and Communication Team and volunteers


JOB: The Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications…


· Drives brand engagement: reaches new audiences through storytelling, outbound and inbound marketing, and growth initiatives.

· Oversees Communication: Collaboratively creates and implements an annual marketing plan to best promote Valley Church and its affiliated ministries through social media, website, digital platforms, email, print media, etc.

· Supports ministry leaders: Builds relationships with the Core Leaders and other leaders proactively to listen, understand, and fulfill our Vision Frame priorities and the individual ministry leaders/connections to that Frame.

· Is Accessible: Meets regularly with leadership and the Strategic Marketing and Communications Team to encourage collaboration, alignment, strategic planning, and mission fulfillment.

· Operational optimizer: Sees the efficiency gaps in the structures and systems of communication and manages/realigns for greater efficiency and effectiveness.

· Maximizes volunteers: identifies, equips, empowers, and leads volunteers with marketing skills to help achieve the mission. Develops a volunteer pipeline focused specifically on marketing and communications.

· Serves the church: understands that the first calling is to serve the leadership in communicating the vision of the church, followed by serving the specific ministry areas.

· Loves our online community: Oversees online environment, creating engagement and developing strategies and systems for assimilation.

· Connects: attends the weekly all-staff meeting at the main campus each week; meets with members of the lead team regularly.

· Communicates: keeps his or her supervisor aware of the successes and struggles taking place in sphere of influence by proactively and consistently sharing stories and reports.

Strategic Planner: Works with senior and core leaders to build an annual, organization-wide strategic marketing and communications plan.

Storyteller: Passionate master storyteller, with proven competency at creating two-way systems to capture and share stories of life change and ministry impact in ways that inform and inspire.

Team Builder: Effectively leads the Marketing/Communication team. Builds staff/volunteer teams and identifies high capacity leaders to build more teams.

Reproducer: With the entire staff, reproduces leaders, volunteers, and followers of Christ.

Galvanizer: Strong internal communicator who creates cohesion and alignment with strategic marketing objectives across the entire organization.

Mission Navigator: Co-labors with leaders to process, plan, and implement great communication of mission-aligned ministries and events. Helps everyone to contribute to the overall effectiveness of church communications.


Typical Tasks Include:

  • Develop and integrate assimilation strategies

  • Oversee the staff of major events and guest experience

  • “Put legs on” existing Vision Frame and horizon storyline

  • Proactive engagement and collaboration with Core Leaders and departments 

  • Oversee online environment of engagement and assimilation 

  • Maximize effectiveness of three marketing pillars- website, social media, email marketing.

  • Creating two-way systems to capture and release Valley DNA and messaging. 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ROLE
  • Undergraduate Degree in a marketing related field

  • 5+ years of proven marketing, communications, and PR Leadership

  • Multiple years of creating and implementing annual marketing plans with measurable increasing success reaching internal and external audiences

  • Proven catalytic leader who exudes positivity, maximizes opportunities with savvy

  • Experience building and supervising paid staff teams as well as volunteer teams

  • Proven experience saturating brand using a variety of media including print, web, digital, analytics, social, video, creative production, admin, etc.

  • Strategist-leader with the ability to proactively serve and integrate marketing approaches among core leaders and ministries that entail a myriad of partnerships and initiatives.

  • Can affirm without reservation the Valley Statement of Beliefs

  • Will attend Valley Church along with their family.

Compensation Package

  • Annual salary (based upon experience, credentials, etc.).

  • Benefits include group health insurance, paid vacations, etc. (Director level)

  • Vacation: 3-5 weeks (depending on experience/tenure)

  • Relocation: The church will reimburse for relocation expenses up to an approved amount

  • Other: Up to 10 days off per year for global opportunities (missions) trip (national or international)

  • Sabbatical: 30 days off every five years of employment at the director level
