Chief Operations Officer
American Bible Society
American Bible Society (ABS) is one of America’s oldest faith-based nonprofit organizations. For more than two centuries, they have been dedicated to make the Bible available to every person in a language and format each can understand and afford, so all people may experience its life-changing message. Their FY2021 revenue budget is approximately $88 million, they have 196 staff, and their headquarters is in Center City Philadelphia.
The new Chief Operations Officer (COO) will help incorporate ABS' mission, priorities, and direction into day-to-day standard operating procedures, help integrate the organization’s three ministry areas, and monitor and assess ongoing strategies for both efficiency and effectiveness. This role needs the experience of a senior operations leader from a large corporation or nonprofit, or an operationally-oriented CEO from a mid-sized organization, since this will be a big part of, as President & CEO Robert Briggs puts it, “retooling the factory for a new season.” The COO will be directly responsible for the Ministry Services area, which is comprised of the operations/administrative functions (Finance, IT, HR, Legal, etc.) as well as the integration of the Ministry Impact and Ministry Advancement functions.
